Hello
I’m Stella Subasic, a visual journalist driven by curiosity, creativity, and the power of storytelling. I earned my Bachelor’s in Journalism and Mass Communication from the Walter Cronkite School at Arizona State University, where I sharpened my skills in photography, video, and multimedia production. Whether I’m behind the lens at a major event or capturing an overlooked community moment, I bring care, clarity, and composition to every story I tell.
My work has been featured by outlets like the Phoenix Business Journal, Phoenix New Times, and Tucson Sentinel. I’ve covered everything from Vice President Kamala Harris’s visit to Arizona to a WNBA game, and grassroots activism stories that show the pulse of our communities.
With experience at Cronkite News, PHOENIX Magazine, as a freelance photographer, and a digtal content producer I’m now building a career focused on documentary-style visuals, collaborative production, and creating media that informs without sensationalizing. I’m especially passionate about content that restores trust in journalism, champions truth, and amplifies underrepresented voices.
My Story
I grew up balancing Midwest roots with Balkan heritage. A mix that shaped my worldview and my storytelling instincts. I’ve always believed that powerful stories deserve dedication, not shortcuts. I’m someone who will put in the long hours, do the hard work, and keep digging until the story is told right — whether it’s breaking news or a cultural deep dive.
My path in journalism has already taken me through fast-paced newsrooms, field shoots, and editorial planning sessions, but I’m far from finished. I’m excited to see where the world of news will take me. Not only in journalism but perhaps also as a travel or commercial photographer, a writer, or most passionately, in documentary-style and anthropological storytelling.
While I enjoy the urgency of breaking news and the weight of political reporting, I thrive when covering culture, arts, business, and lifestyle: the stories that reveal who we are beyond the headlines.
Outside the newsroom or studio, I recharge by spending time with my family, watching my comfort shows, making homemade meals, and late-night video game marathons. My creative process is fueled by caffeine, and a strong sense of purpose. These things help fuel my curiosity and keep me grounded as I continue building a meaningful, multi-dimensional career in media.
